- Story Text: A car bomb killed two policemen and wounded six others near a restaurant in eastern Baghdad frequented by security forces during breakfast on Tuesday (November 15), police and witnesses said.
They said that one civilian was also wounded in the blast, which was caused by a car bomb parked outside the restaurant at Baghdad's eastern neighbourhood of al-Mashtal.
The area near the restaurant was strewn with debris and a number of police and civilian cars were damaged in the blast.
Later, four civilians were wounded when a roadside bomb missed their target and hit a civilian pickup truck in eastern Baghdad, police said.
The bomb, probably meant for a police car, damaged a civilian pickup truck, injuring all its four occupants.
Earlier on Monday, gunmen opened fire on an Iraqi army car in the oil-rich city of eastern, killing one and wounding another.
The attack took place in al-Nasr neighbourhood on Monday night in al-Nasr neighbourhood in eastern Kirkuk, about 250 km (150 miles) north of Baghdad.
"We were sitting inside the car when we get a call from a colleague in the army and the moment he said hello a Mitsubishi car drove past and the men inside honked the horn and greeted us by names. One minute later a second car drove past, honking the horn then a third car passed by, opening fire on us. We were three in the car," wounded Iraqi soldier Arshad Abdullah said.
The insurgents often target Iraqi security forces, which are being recruited and trained by the U.S.-led coalition as part of its eventual exit strategy, but they have killed and wounded scores of civilians.
Gunmen later opened fire on the car of the son of Dr. Subhi Saber, a leading member in the Turkmen front in Kirkuk in a drive by shooting on Tuesday, wounding him and two other civilians, police said.
In a separate attack, at least three policemen were killed and another one wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near their patrol north of Kirkuk.
Kirkuk's oil wealth is a source of dispute between rival ethnic groups in the city -- Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen -- and it has seen significant violence over the past year or so. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
