- Story Text: At least two drivers were killed in Pakistan on Monday (May 5), in an attack on a NATO supply convoy heading to Afghanistan, officials and witnesses said.
At least three people were wounded.
The attack occurred in the Jamrud area of the northwestern Khyber tribal region located about 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of the city of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
An assistant to a senior official in the region said 20 gunmen were involved in the attack.
Witness Rafi Ullah described the scene.
"We were sitting upstairs. Suddenly the fire started and it continued for about 10 to 15 minutes. We could not immediately make out what had happened. We saw the trucks and NATO supplies on fire as we got downstairs and reached here," the shopkeeper said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistan's Taliban, who are close to al Qaeda, have previously torched trucks carrying NATO supplies.
Three people who were wounded were taken to hospital.
