- Story Text: Cars were vandalised and their tires flattened, in East Jerusalem on Monday (June 23), in an apparent attack by hardline Israeli settlers against Palestinian residents.
The incident had the hallmarks of a so-called "Price Tag" attack - a term used by militant Israeli settlers who say they will exact a price for Palestinian attacks or any attempts by the Israeli government to curb settlement activity.
Police said one vehicle's wheels were torched in the car park of Beit Hanina, a Palestinian neighbourhood, adding that they were examining evidence and searching for suspects.
Graffiti sprayed on a car read in Hebrew: "All Arabs enemies".
Other cars had slash marks and their tires flattened.
"The people woke up in the morning in time to go to work and to send the children to school, and they found that the cars were lowered, and the tires were stabbed. This is a bad act, and I consider it as a terrorist act, and a criminal one. And this goes against the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Who has the audacity to do this? I can predict he may be supported by the government, or a man who hates peace," Beit Hanina resident Ubeidu Jamal said.
"Price Tag" attacks in the past have targeted churches and monasteries, as well as Palestinian mosques, homes and Israeli military installations in the West Bank.
Israeli forces continue searching for three Jewish teenagers who went missing in the occupied West Bank last week.
Israel said Hamas militants had abducted the three, warning of "serious consequences" as it pressed on with the search and detained dozens of Palestinians.
Hospital officials in the West Bank said four Palestinians have been killed during clashes with Israeli forces since the search for the teenagers began.
