- Story Text: A tanker loaded with petrol and two ammunition barges survived the attacks of communist-led insurgents along the Mekong River and arrived at the Khmer capital, Phnom Penh, on Sunday (26 January).
It was the second river convoy to reach the beleaguered capital from South Vietnam since the insurgents began their current offensive on New Year's Day.
Captain Nguyen Van Chieu, master of the tanker Vira One, said another tanker was forced to turn back to Neak Luong after being hit by insurgent fire.
Khmer Air Force fighter-bombers struck at insurgent concentrations on the river banks as the three vessels made their final dash for Phnom Penh from Neak Luong, 60 kilometres (35 miles) southeast of the capital.
