Israeli jets killed or wounded several people on Tuesday when they launched their third raid of the year against Lebanon. The jets attacked positions held by Palestinians and pro-Syrian Lebanese Druze in several villages in the mountains southeast of Beirut.
The jets attacked a post of the Marxist Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), killing two guerrillas and several civilians. Witnesses said the one-storey DFLP building was demolished and tents in surrounding pine groves torn to shreds. Guerrillas dug with their bare hands looking for casualties. The Israeli jets also wounded several children when a bomb dropped near their school.
An official of the DFLP claimed that the raid was in retaliation for of a bid by three guerrillas to infiltrate Israel last week. Israeli soldiers killed the three guerrillas as they crossed into the security zone set up in south Lebanon in 1985 to protect its northern border from attack.
