- Story Text: Rhodesian troops were reported by Reuters to have killed several hundred African Nationalist guerrillas during raids on at least seven camps inside Mozambique, on Tuesday (2 November). The raids, described by Rhodesian authorities as hot pursuit operations, are a deadly example of how the war of nerves on the Rhodesia/Mozambique border can explode into action in spite of the current delicate negotiations in Geneva. A key pressure point on the 600 mile border is the Forbes Post, near Umtali, Rhodesia.
SYNOPSIS: Rhodesian commanders there have been closely watching what they regard as a significant build up by Frelimo forces on the other side of the border post. Up to a hundred and fifty well armed Mozambique troops were rumoured to have assembled there following the hot pursuit operation by the Rhodesian security forces.
The attacks are reported to have taken place in seven areas, all within 50 miles (80 kms) of the border. Brigadier Derry Macintyre, of the Rhodesian forces, told newsmen about the flashpoint zone.
