Family members of victims who were killed in the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires gathered in a memorial square located where the building once stood on Tuesday (March 17).
On March 17, 1992, a truck bomb ripped through the Israeli embassy, killing 29 people and injuring hundreds.
Twenty-three years later the crime remains unresolved.
Jorge Cohen, who worked as a press spokesman at the embassy and survived the blast, expressed his sadness and frustration that no one had been held responsible for the attack in more than two decades since it occurred.
"And now I'm writing this speech, trying to think about how to live with this ghost that I was, that I am and that I will be. How much time is left for this staggering [reference to shock following bomb] person without knowing what has happened, without thinking that 23 years later there would be no charges or suspects or people in prison. Were they aliens, were they invisible?" said Cohen.
Carlos Susevich, who lost his daughter Liliana in the blast and was the first victim family member complainant in the case, said that the investigation must move forward.
"There are always clues, logically. There are no perfect crimes and we belief that there is interest and political will to carry this case forward so that things can be clarified," he said.
The Islamic Jihad Organization, believed to be linked to Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, claimed responsibility for the 1992 bombing.
In 1994, two years after the embassy bombing, a truck bomb exploded by a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, killing 85 people and injuring hundreds. Both attacks remain unresolved and have sparked outrage among Argentines denouncing the slow pace of justice. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
