- Story Text: At least two people have been killed and seven wounded
in the latest attack by a suicide bomber in the Capital
Colombo.
Police and hospital officials have said that at least
two civilians were killed and seven wounded in the Sri Lanka
attack on Wednesday (June 14). The wounded included air force
personnel.
The suicide bomber carried out the attack in a suburb of
Sri Lanka's capital Colombo and one eyewitness, Rohan Jayakodi
who was riding his bicycle as the explosion went off said, "I
heard the explosion, I dropped my bike and then ran away. Then
I turned back and came to the scene of the explosion. I saw a
man and a woman lying on the road. The man looked very
injured. Then I saw a motorcycle against the airforce bus".
Police said the bomber had been targeting an air force
vehicle traveling in the city's Wattala district.
The body of the bomber and shattered glass was strewn
across he blast site.
Police cordoned off the area and the wounded, who included
air force personnel who were on their way in to the city
centre, had been taken to hospital.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have been
fighting for a separate homeland for minority Tamils in Sri
Lanka's north and east since 1983.
The rebels have launched frequent deadly bomb attacks in
the capital and elsewhere.
Last Wednesday (June 7), 23 people, including a government
minister, were killed by a LTTE suicide bomber in the capital.
