- Story Text: There was heavy shelling between factions in Israel's self-declared security zone in South Lebanon on Sunday (December 3).
The Israeli-backed South Lebanese Army (SLA) and Israeli soldiers fired mortars at suspected Hizbollah (Party of God) bases in the security zone. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Last Thursday (November 30), Israeli jets blasted hills held by the Moslem guerrillas in southeastern Lebanon in apparent retaliation for guerrilla shelling that wounded two Israeli soldiers. There were no reports of casualties.
It was the sixth successive day of hostilities across the last active Arab-Israeli front.
Israel carved out a 15 kilometre (9 mile) wide occupation zone in south Lebanon in 1985 to protect its northern border against guerrilla attack.
