- Story Text: Lebanon's Hizbollah group has denounced U.S plans to
attack Iraq and vowed to continue its own military actions on
Israeli targets in the disputed Shebaa farms area.
Lebanon's Hizbollah group dennouced on Tuesday
(September 3) U.S plans to
attack Iraq describing it as an act of terrorism that serves
Israeli security interests and U.S aims to control oil
resources in the region.
Speaking at a local ceremony, Hizbollah Deputy Chief
Sheikh Naim qassem called on Arabs to support Palestinian
intifadeh with money and arms and not with words.
Qassem vowed that Hizbollah guerillas, which is backed by
Syria and Iran, will not stop its attacks on Israeli targets
in the disputed Shebaa farms area until its "liberation".
Hizbollah guerrillas killed one Israeli soldier and
wounded two others in an armed attack on their position last
week in the disputed Shebaa Farms border zone, drawing an
Israeli air raid and artillery fire.
Hizbollah has skirmished sporadically with Israeli troops
in Shebaa Farms since it helped force Israel from southern
Lebanon in 2000 after a 22-year occupation.
Hizbollah, Lebanon and Syria say the area is Lebanese
soil, a claim not endorsed by the United Nations, which
certified Israel's pull-out from Lebanon as complete with a
demarcation
Blue Line on the borders.
Israel holds Syria and Lebanon responsible for Hizbollah's
actions on the border, and twice last year launched air
strikes on Syrian military positions in Lebanon to retaliate
for
Hizbollah attacks in the Shebaa Farms.
