- Story Text: Palestinians attack Israeli car south of Jerusalem
wounding three people
Palestinian militants fired at an Israeli car south
of Jerusalem, wounding a woman and a nine-year-old girl,
rescue workers said on Sunday (August 3).
It was a rare flare-up of violence since Palestinian
militants waging a 34-month-old uprising for statehood
declared a three-month truce on June 29.
"We have evacuated a woman aged 39 and a nine-year-old
girl who were wounded, a spokesman for the Magen David Adom
Ambulance Service said. Israeli radio stations said a
mother and her daughter were wounded, one of them
seriously.
Radio stations reported a third person was also hurt,
but ambulance officials could not confirm the reports.
The incident occurred on a road that connects the
Jewish settlement of Har Gilo in the West Bank to
Jerusalem, military sources said
This evening, Israeli justice minister, Tommy Lapid
said Israel has made a goodwill gesture by willing to
release prisoners but was dissapointed by the reluctance of
Palestinians to show any concessions.
"Well, we've decided to free a few hundred prisoners
such as have no blood on their hands. Is a show of goodwill
towards Abu Mazen's government despite the fact that they
don't do much in order to bring to a peaceful soution. "
Israel has promised to release several hundred
Palestinian prisoners within days.
