- Story Text: Explosions hit two shops in al- Saidiya neighbourhood in
Baghdad, causing no civilian casualties.
Insurgents attacked two shops in the main street of
al-Saidiya neighbourhood southwest of Baghdad on Friday
night (December 17). There were no civilian casualties.
One of the attacks, aimed at a record shop, was caused
by an improvised explosive device planted by insurgents.
The other one, severely damaging a barber shop, was hit by
a rocket propelled grenade, witnesses said.
The explosion took place around ten p.m. Friday night
(1900GMT), the witnesses added.
"We heard about the explosion yesterday, our colleague
told us what happened, they said that the shop exposed to a
RPG, we were afraid to go outside due to the curfew, and
now you can see the damages", said a local man, Umar.
Insurgents have repeatedly attacked some of the Iraqi
neighbourhoods as part of a long campaign to destroy the
confidence of the fledging security forces.
