in Fallujah.
A U.S. military vehicle in the northern Iraqi city
of Mosul was destroyed by a blast on Tuesday (August 12, 2003)
and four casualties were taken from the scene, witnesses
said.
Locals said the Humvee was hit by a rocket-propelled
grenade at around 7 p.m. (1500 GMT). Scores of U.S.
soldiers launched a search of surrounding houses to try to
track down the attackers.
There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military.
Earlier on Tuesday, the U.S. military said one soldier
was killed and two wounded in a bomb attack in the restive
Sunni Muslim town of Ramadi, 100 km (60 miles) west of
Baghdad.
U.S. officers say die-hard Saddam Hussein loyalists and
some foreign fighters are behind the guerrilla campaign.
Firefighters put out a fire, which broke out on Tuesday
(August 12) after looters attacked the pipeline connecting
the oil refinery in Kirkuk to Taji.
"They came to steal petrol and it turned out to be
oil," a firefighter said.
Meantime in Fallujah, northwest of the capital,
passersby said a convoy of the U.S. Army was attacked. The
military would not confirm the attack nor if any personnel
was injured. However, possible remnants of an explosive
device could be seen on the ground.
