- Story Text: Two people injured in suicide bomb attack near
Turkish embassy in Baghdad.
A suicide bomber killed himself and wounded two
people when his car exploded outside the Turkish embassy in
Baghdad on Tuesday (October 14), the U.S. military said.
Colonel Pete Mansoor of the U.S. 1st Armoured Division,
said a car was driven towards the entrance of the
heavily-fortified mission. It blew up, killing the driver
and wounding one Turk and one Iraqi.
Iraqi policeman Mohamed Hassan said guards came to
check the car believed to have been used by the suicide
bomber and it exploded.
Turkey's parliament last week agreed to send troops to
join American and other foreign troops trying to stabilise
Iraq after the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in
April.
U.S. troops sealed off the area around the embassy with
razor wire and turned journalists away as ambulances and a
fire crew rushed to the scene.
An angry crowd gathered nearby, and Iraqi police fired
into the air to disperse them.
Iraqi guerrillas have attacked U.S. troops and foreign
and Iraqi targets seen as linked to the U.S.-led occupation
of the country.
