- Story Text: Seven Iraqi Turkmen killed in ambush in Falluja as
twin bombs target Shi'ite mosques in Bagdad.
One civilian and three others were wounded after a
blast ripped through an Iraqi army convoy driving near
Falluja on Wednesday.
The three injured people, two of them whom were women,
were brought to Falluja hospital for treatment.
A dead body of a man killed in the incident was seen in
the hospital morgue.
Fallujah has witnessed pitched battles between
insurgents and U.S. troops who along with Iraqi troops were
able to defeat militants and drive them out of the city. A few
hours earlier, seven Iraqi Turkmen captured in an
ambush on a security convoy near Falluja were found dead,
shot in the head and with their hands bound, police said.
Captain Ahmad Ali of Khalidiya police station said the
bodies were dumped south of Falluja in Anbar province, one
of the regions where the insurgency is strongest.
Doctor Muthanna Amir said: "The residents of Amiliyat
al-Falluja found seven bodies on the road to Mussayib. This
is an indication that the aim is to spark a civil war in
the Amiliyat al-Falluja area. All these bodies were from
the Sunnis."
Identity documents showed the men were ethnic Turkmen
from Kirkuk who were working for a security firm, police
said.
At least 14 people officers were wounded when another
car bomb tore through a police convoy.
The car exploded when three police cars from Baladruz
police station (eastern Baquba) stopped narby. four
civilians were also wounded in the attack.
In Baghdad, two Shi'ite mosques were the target of dual
car bombs in different parts of Baghdad.
Insurgents have assassinated three clerics in Baghdad
in an escalating wave of violence that authorities fear is
aimed at sparking civil war.
The killings threaten to increase sectarian tensions in
Iraq a day after Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari
vowed to crack down against anyone targeting Shi'ites and
Sunnis. His threat came amid a spree of violence that has
killed more than 450 people since his government was
announced April 28.
Al Qaeda's wing in Iraq also warned the country's Sunni
Arabs to take no part in drafting a new constitution, in
another sign militants are trying to fuel sectarian
tensions.
