- Story Text: Attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq continue.
A U.S army vehicle was seen ablaze on Saturday
(November 8) along the main highway near the flashpoint
town of Falluja, a stronghold of anti-U.S. resistance 50 km
(32 miles) west of Baghdad after an apparent attack by
anti-coalition forces.
No information was immediately available on possible
casualties.
In Baghdad, two explosions apparently caused by trap
bombs planted on a stretch of road frequently used by U.S.
military vehicles ripped craters at the side of the
highway. No injuries were reported in the incident.
More than 250 U.S. troops have been killed in combat
in Iraq since March 20 when the U.S.-led assault began,
with more than half of those deaths since May 1 when
President George W. Bush declared an end to major combat.
