- Story Text: Students gathered in front of the U.S. embassy in
Tokyo to protest the U.S. attack on Falluja.
Student activists took to the streets in front of the
U.S. embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday (November 9) to protest at
the U.S. full out attack on the rebel-held Iraqi city of
Falluja.
Shouting anti-U.S. slogans, at least two dozen helmeted and
masked activists confronted Japanese police that had cordoned
off the streets in front of the U.S. embassy.
U.S. forces were preparing to fight their way further into
Falluja as part of an offensive to crush rebels and any
foreign fighters in the Sunni Muslim city.
But Japanese activists say that that is a U.S. interpretation.
"The U.S. says they have gone in there to root out the
terrorists, but its the U.S. that have invaded Iraq and so
that's only their interpretation," said one student who
preferred to have her name withheld.
