  • Story Text: Suicide car bomb attack on U.S. convoy in Mosul.



    A U.S. military convoy was targetted in a suicide
    car bomb attack in the Sunni Muslim city of Mosul on Sunday
    (March 27). The convoy was driving through the Ad Dubat
    district in the centre of the city when the attack occured.

    The U.S. military did not confirm if there were any
    casualties.

    Tensions are high between Arabs and Kurds in northern
    Iraq, particularly around the city of Mosul, where Kurdish
    soldiers were brought in to help U.S. troops keep the peace
    after an outbreak of insurgency late last year.

    Some Arabs fear the Kurds, with their well-trained
    Peshmerga force, are keen to expand their influence in
    Mosul, a city which lies outside of the traditional Kurdish
    region of northern Iraq.
