- Story Text: In Paris on Monday (19 December) the luxury food shop, Fauchon, was destroyed by fire after two bombs exploded during the early hours of the morning. No-one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
SYNOPSIS: Nobody was hurt in the bomb attack which took place as the store's kitchen staff were arriving for work.
But all five floors of the emporium were gutted when fire broke out and was swelled by the liquor kept in the building.
Famous for its wines and expensive products such as caviar, exotic fruits and truffles, the Fauchon store has been attacked once before. That was by a left-wing group who said the store was the epitome of consumer society.
Barriers thrown around the area caused massive traffic jams as Fauchon is in the Place de la Madeleine, a busy thoroughfare.
Damage has not been estimated but by way of indication last December it had a turnover of ten million francs (1.1 million pounds).
