- Story Text: Eight people were killed and 22 wounded in another car bomb attack in Baghdad on Tuesday (September 18), Iraqi police said.
They said the attack -- the fourth car bombing in Baghdad in the past several hours -- took place near a market in the Ur neighbourhood, not far from the Shi'ite district of Sadr City.
Sunni Islamist al Qaeda militants have pledged a renewed campaign of violence to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which started last week.
The latest car bomb in Baghdad drew a large crowd who inspected the wreckage around the blast site and pools of blood on the ground, while U.S helicopters hovered overhead.
Some onlookers were angry that the attack had happened during a Muslim religious festival.
"A car bomb (exploded). It is a terrorist act that cannot happen during Ramadan. It is a terrorist act. People are working here to earn a living for their families. It is a terrorist act," said one unidentified witness.
Three earlier car bombs killed a total of nine people and wounded 28, police said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
