  • Story Text: A roadside bomb exploded near civilians in northeastern Baghdad on Monday (April 30), killing one person and wounding four people, police said.
    They said the attack took place in the Qanat al-Jaish area of northern Baghdad.
    Earlier, two people were killed and 15 wounded when a minibus exploded in a tunnel targeting a police checkpoint, police said.
    The explosion badly damaged the tunnel, in the al-Nusour district, which is on a main artery in western Baghdad.
    Elsewhere in Baghdad, two roadside bombs exploded in the al-Bayaa district, killing one person and wounding four.
    Thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops have been conducting a security crackdown in Baghdad since mid-February to try to pull Iraq back from the brink of all-out sectarian civil war between majority Shi'ites and once-dominant Sunni Arabs.
