- Story Text: A car bomb in central Baghdad wounds five civilians, while two Shi'ite men are gunned down leaving a mosque in the northern city of Kirkuk.
A roadside bomb exploded near a minibus wounding five people near a hospital in the Iraqi capital on Thursday (November 29), police said.
The blast took place close to the Shaab stadium of central Baghdad.
"A bomb was planted here. It exploded when a car and a minibus drove beside, wounding a man, woman and two children. The Kia (minibus) was damaged in the blast," said an unidentified policeman.
Separately, gunmen shot dead two Shi'ite men as they were leaving a mosque in the northern city of Kirkuk late on Wednesday (November 28), police said.
They said that two worshippers were leaving al-Zahra Shi'ite mosque in central Kirkuk when four gunmen sprayed their vehicle with shower of bullets.
"The vehicle parked and after that four gunmen attacked us and opened fire at us. We do not know what happened after that," said a witness.
Relatives gathered near the forensic department in Kirkuk hospital, taking bodies of the slain men for burial.
Overall attacks have dropped sharply in Baghdad in recent months after a build-up of U.S. troops this year.
But U.S. commanders have cautioned that militants have not been defeated, and there has been a upsurge in attacks in the past week.. At least 13 people were killed on Friday when a bomb exploded in a popular pet market in the capital.
