- Story Text: Two bombs, one inside a car and another in a bus, went off in central Baghdad, killing seven and wounding 20 people.
The streets around the French Embassy in Bagdad were rocked on Sunday (January 21) by two bombs that killed seven and wounded 20.
A car bomb exploded in Palestine street, killing one civilian and wounding five others.
That attack came not long after another bomb on a small bus killed six people and wounded 15 others. The bus blast took place in Karrada area, a central Baghdad district.
It was not clear how many people were aboard the bus, which was left completely gutted and burning fiercely after the blast which rocked the area around 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT).
Bombs, mortar attacks and sectarian death squads are killing hundreds of people every week. The government has announced a major new security plan for Baghdad that aims to stem the tide of violence with the help of U.S. troop reinforcements. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
