- Story Text: A car bomb exploded in central Baghdad on Monday (December 24), killing one civilian and wounding five others, police and army sources said.
They said the blast, which took place near Sinak Bridge in central Baghdad targeted people going to a park to celebrate Eid al-Adha holiday.
Monday is the 4th day of Eid for the country's majority Shi'ites loyal to Iraq's most prominent cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
"It (the blast) targeted innocent people who were on way to Zawra Park. Thanks God, the blast was powerful but the number of the casualties were few," said Lieutenant Colonel Sattar Jabbar, who was inspecting the scene.
Insurgent attacks in Iraq have decreased over the past six months, but militants have targeted U.S.-backed anti-Qaeda neighbourhood patrols and police in recent weeks. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
