- Story Text: A parked car bomb killed at least four civilians and wounded 22 when it exploded in a commercial area in central Baghdad on Saturday (July 28), police said.
At least five cars were damaged in the blast, which took place at Karrada's Uqba Bin Nafi' Square. Iraqi police and military forces sealed off the area and started to remove debris and tow away damaged cars.
The predominantly-Shi'ite neighbourhood has been a scene of a wave of car bombings over the past three days, the deadliest one was on Thursday when a parked car bomb killed 25 people and wounded 115.
U.S. and Iraqi forces have stepped up security operations in Baghdad since mid-February in an attempt to stem bombings, many of them blamed on al Qaeda in Iraq, a Sunni Islamist group that U.S. officials say is trying to spark a full-scale civil war.
But large-scale bombings continue to plague the capital. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
