A roadside bomb exploded on Wednesday (July 11) as a U.S. military convoy was driving in central Baghdad, setting one Humvee on fire, police and witnesses said.
They said that the blast, which took place in Baghdad's al-Wathiq Square, caused casualties among U.S. soldiers. Witnesses said they saw the gunner on the top of the Humvee being thrown away by the force of the blast.
Reuters television footage showed a charred wreckage of the Humvee standing in the middle of the street as U.S. military vehicles sealed off the area.
The U.S. military could not immediately be reached for comment on the attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
