- Story Text: The bomb blast on Thursday (February 17) in the volatile Iraqi province of Diyala at a busy car showroom is further proof of the government's struggle to contain the violence in Iraq - which has dropped sharply in recent years but is still a regular feature of life for Iraqi residents and their businesses.
Iraqiya party member of parliament Abdullah al-Jibouri visited the site on Friday (February 18) when he criticised poor relations between Iraq's local government and security forces.
He blamed criminals for the attack which he said was harming ordinary Iraqis trying to make a living.
The car bomb exploded at a car showroom in Muqdadiya, about 80 km (50 miles) northeast of Baghdad. It killed at least 13 people and wounding 33 others according to security sources.
The blast set fire to about 30 cars at the showroom.
A police officer at the scene said the car had been left at the centre by a man who said he would return soon, and exploded about 30 minutes after he left.
"We feel really sad to see Diyala targeted in this way. We know that there is a big defect in the security situation in Diyala, which has been diagnosed two years ago. The defect is represented by the absence of cooperation between the local government and the security forces. This disagreement was used by the criminals to hurt the people of Diyala," said al-Joubouri.
Ethnically and religiously mixed Diyala province saw some of the worst fighting in the war. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
