- Story Text: At least five people are killed and 33 wounded when a car bomb explodes in the Sadr city district of northeastern Baghdad, police say.
At least five people were killed and 33 wounded when a car bomb exploded in a popular market in Sadr City slum, a Shi'ite militia stronghold, on Thursday (February 14), police said.
Police said they feared the toll would rise from the bombing, which took place during the rush hour in a market selling items from second hand electrical goods to furniture.
At the blast site, wrecked cars could be seen blocking the roads.
The wounded were taken to a local hospital and given medical care.
Attacks have fallen by 60 percent across the country since June, the U.S. military says. However, it has warned that al Qaeda, blamed for most large scale bombings, remains a threat.
Two weeks ago, bombings at two pet markets, which U.S. and Iraqi forces said were the work of al Qaeda, killed 99 people. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
