- Story Text: A Libyan man throws a bomb at Milan army barracks, losing one of his hands in the explosion.
A Libyan man threw a bomb at an Italian army barracks in Milan early on Monday (October 12), injuring himself and an Italian soldier in the explosion.
Police said the man lost one of his hands in the attack at the Santa Barbara barracks near San Siro soccer stadium, to the west of the city.
Police identified the man as a Libyan aged about 35 but had no immediate indication of his motive for the attack.
It is believed that the Libyan man attempted to follow a car driven by soldiers into the barracks and when he was stopped from entering, he threw the bomb.
Investigating police officers were placing crime scene numbers next to the car at the entrance of the barracks as they continue to look for forensic evidence at the scene. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
