- Story Text: Violence continued across Iraq as the country observed the second day of the holy month of Ramadan.
A motorcycle rigged with a bomb exploded at a restaurant in northeast Baghdad in Saturday (September 23) evening, killing one civilian and wounding five others, police said.
The blast took place in al-Binook district.
"(The blast took place) at about 0830 (p.m.) when the restaurant was full . We have taken precautionary measures but we did not expect that one could detonate a motorcycle," Abdul Samad, who works in the restaurant, said on Sunday (September 24) as people started cleaning up the site.
U.S. commanders predict violence will get worse next week with the start of the Ramadan holy month, and they say attacks on U.S. troops have also surged in the last two weeks.
In a separate incident, police in Tikrit town, north of Baghdad, said gunmen had beheaded nine people on Saturday including some policemen after dragging them out of two cars in a nearby town. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
