Two suicide car bombers killed at least 10 people and wounded 35 in a mainly Shi'ite area of eastern Baghdad on Saturday (January 27), police sources said.
The bombers detonated their vehicles in close succession near a busy intersection in the commercial street of the capital's New Baghdad district.
"This is a blast in New Baghdad and people here are Sunnis, Shi'ites and Christians. I want the world to see this (holding up a cross). This belongs to one of our Christian brothers. We are all living here in the New Baghdad. All the sects are united. I want to ask the world, is this Jihad? where is the Jihad?," said Ali, a Shi'ite living in the area.
Meanwhile, Baghdad's main hospital, al-Yarmouk, received on Saturday morning the bodies of four men of a Shi'ite family killed by gunmen in a predominantly Shi'ite district of western Baghdad.
Hospital sources said that the bodies of the four men along with two wounded children of the same family were brought from the Al-Amil district by police.
They said that four men and two children were standing outside their house when gunmen fired at them, killing the four men and wounding the children.
There have been a spate of bombings in Baghdad this week.
Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has vowed to tackle militants from across the sectarian divide with equal force in a planned crackdown in the capital. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
