  • Story Text: Three people where killed when a car bomb exploded near a store of alcohol in central Baghdad on Monday (October 17) evening, police said.
    The blast, which took place near al-Wathiq Square in central Baghdad, also wounded at least 11 others and damaged several nearby shops, vehicles and homes Violence in Iraq has fallen sharply since the heights of sectarian fighting in 2006-2007, but attacks still occur daily. A total of 185 Iraqis were killed in violence in September, according to official figures.
    Suicide bombers and roadside blasts killed at least 28 people last Wednesday across Baghdad. The attacks mostly targeted police stations and patrols.
