- Story Text: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off inside sport clothes shop in central Baghdad on Wednesday (April 14), killing one civilian and wounding five others, police said.
They said that the blast took place in al-Rasheed street of central Baghdad.
Early in the day, a bomb attached to a car in al-Nisour Square in central Baghdad killed Brigadier Arkan Mohammed Ali, a counter-terrorism officer at the Interior Ministry, and wounded three people including a traffic police officer, police said.
Then, gunmen shot and killed an imam at the al-Rahman al-Raheem mosque near his house in Baghdad's northern Adhamiya district, police added.
Hundreds people have died or been wounded in attacks around the capital in the last week, almost a month after parliamentary elections.
Iraqi security forces had predicted a possible upturn of violence following the March 7 election, which highlighted Iraq's sectarian divide.
Meanwhile, the formation of a new government could still be weeks or months away. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
