- Story Text: A group of Palestinian women affiliated with the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, the armed wing of Fatah, told a news conference in Gaza on Monday (May 21), that they were ready to commit suicide bombings against Israeli soldiers if they entered Gaza.
"We, the glorious Fatah woman, the daughters of Yasser Arafat and Hassan al-Madhoun, the women's resistance, the martyrs unit of Nabeel Al-Masoud, grew on God's way and his prophet. And we promise you that we will be human bombs that will explode inside the heart of the enemy, the dirty Zionist, between his soldiers and tanks. And we will not let them pass, except over our dead bodies," said one woman who had her faced covered.
"And we say to the entire world, that this is not terrorism . This is only to counter the zionist terrorism against our children of resistance. This is resistance, victory and martyrdom. The glorious Fatah women, the martyrs unit of Nabeel Masoud, the al-Aqsa martyrs Brigade unit of Jihad al-Amireen," the woman added.
Israel's security cabinet on Sunday (May 20) escalated military action against Palestinians in Gaza in response to what it claims were some 150 rockets fired from the impoverished coastal strip since last week, which have put political pressure on Olmert.
Israel on Tuesday (May 22) threatened to kill Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas and said that a Gaza ground offensive was an option unless world pressure was brought on the Islamist group to halt rocket fire
Israeli air strikes over the past week have killed at least 34 Palestinians, medical officials said in Gaza. Militant groups said 23 of the dead were fighters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
