- Story Text: At least three people were killed and 10 others wounded when two bombs went off consecutively in Baghdad's north-eastern Sadr city slum, on Wednesday (April 20), according to an Interior Ministry source.
They said that a number of passing civilians were killed and injured by the first blast that took place near a government building in Sadr city, while others who went to their aid were hit by a second explosion.
"He had children, God's curse on the oppressors, God's curse on the injustice, God's curse on the men who do not believe in Allah, God's curse on everyone who uses religion and Allah to cheat people. What have his children done to deserve this? They have been orphaned," Abu Ali, a relative of a victim who was killed in the blast, said while attending the funeral procession.
In central Baghdad, a roadside bomb exploded in Uqba bin Naf'e square, causing damage to nearby buildings and vehicles.
Violence has fallen sharply in Iraq in recent years but Iraqi forces are still battling a stubborn insurgency that carries out bombings and other attacks on a daily basis. U.S. troops are scheduled to withdraw by the end of the year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
