- Story Text: Car blows up in central Baghdad killing one woman and wounding six others.
A bomb that was planted inside a car went off close to civilians on Tuesday (February 19), killing a woman and wounding six others, police said.
They said that the attack took place in the al-Waziriya neighbourhood of central Baghdad.
"The car was driving from over there (points), when it reached here, it exploded. There was a family, children and the owner of the car inside the booby trapped vehicle, but they did not know about it," said Ziyad Hilayl, a policeman.
Attacks by insurgents and rival sectarian militias have fallen by 80 percent in Baghdad after a year-long clampdown named "Operation Imposing Law", a senior Iraqi military official said on Saturday.
Al Qaeda in Iraq, blamed by the U.S. military for most other large-scale bombings, has increasingly used women wearing suicide vests to carry out strikes after increased security and protective concrete walls made car bombings more difficult. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
