- Story Text: Security forces blew up a mule in the southeastern Turkish district of Yuksekova on Saturday (October 29), suspecting the animal might be loaded with explosives.
Police blocked the highway connecting the province of Hakkari to Yuksekova, shot the mule and later detonated it with fuses, creating a blast that appeared to confirm their suspicions about its load.
Governor of Hakkari Muammer Turker confirmed the mule was loaded with C4 and A4 explosives, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
An hour before the incident, a female suicide bomber died in an attack that killed three and wounded around 20 in Bingol, a town in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast.
The blast occurred close to the office of the ruling AK Party, and police said the bomber was a woman.
Turkey is fighting a long running separatist insurgency in the southeast, and the blast comes as the government is trying to provide relief to thousands of people rendered homeless by a powerful earthquake in Van, another largely Kurdish province. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
