- Story Text: A car belonging to a Serb working for Kosovo government exploded early on Friday (February 8) in the northern, Serb-controlled part of Kosovo's town of Mitrovica. There were no casualties in the blast, but the car has been totally destroyed.
Police said investigation was under way and that no arrests have been made so far.
The explosion comes only days after two Serb children were injured in a hand grenade blast there. Police arrested a Serb man in connection with the attack and charged him for illegal possession of weapons and explosives.
Ethnic violence in Kosovo appeared to have fallen in the five years since the mostly Albanian territory seceded from Serbia in 2008. Tensions have been rising again this year as the European Union steers the two through talks aimed at normalising ties.
Serbia does not recognise Kosovo as a state but is under pressure from the EU to loosen its grip on a northern, Serb-populated pocket of its former province if the bloc is to move ahead with Belgrade's bid to join it. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
