- Story Text: A car bomb killed five people and wounded 14 others in central Baghdad on Saturday (June 10), a police source said.
The blast, which took place in central Baghdad came hours after a roadside bomb killed three people and wounded 28 in a busy market in the Iraqi capital.
The blast damaged a number of cars and nearby shops in the Shi'ite district of Kerrada.
Late on Saturday, one civilian was killed and at least nine wounded in a mortar attack in Baghdad's dangerous southern district of Dora, a police source said.
The source said that the attack damaged at least two houses at Abu Desheer area in Dora, toughest of Baghdad's no-go zones .
U.S. and Iraqi officials have warned that violence will not cease with the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al Qaeda leader in Iraq.
Zarqawi, who had been blamed for some of the bloodiest attacks in Iraq, was killed during a U.S. air strike in a village north of Baghdad on Wednesday (June 7) in one of the most significant developments since the U.S.-led invasion.
U.S. officials, including U.S. President George W. Bush, hailed the killing of Jordanian-born Zarqawi but have warned that his al Qaeda group still posed a threat. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
