- Story Text: Wounded victims of a car bomb outside a Shi'ite mosque in western Baghdad were recovering in a hospital on Sunday (July 9).
The car bomb killed three civilians and wounded 19 others after night prayers on Saturday (July 8).
The explosion took place outside Al-Zahra Shi'ite Mosque in Baghdad's western district of Al-Jihad.
"A bus came and entered the garage near the Shi'ite mosque in Al-Jihad district after night prayers. The bus drove around the mosque and then exploded. Many worshippers (were wounded) and people started to come out of smoke and fire. The house of the family of the Muazen (prayers' caller) near the Shi'ite mosque was destroyed," said Abu Alaa who was near the mosque when the blast happened.
Attacks on mosques after Friday (July 7) prayers killed 11 people in Iraq and wounded at least 55 others.
The sectarian attacks, three on Sunni mosques in Baghdad and a car bomb that killed at least six after Shi'ite prayers in the village of Tal Banat near Mosul, dealt new blows to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's attempts to end bloodshed between Shi'ites and once-dominant Sunnis that has pitched Iraq towards all-out civil war. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
