Story Text: At least 11 people killed and 23 others wounded when a car bomb exploded near a market in a town south of Baghdad on Sunday (April 16), police said.
The blast occurred in a busy street in the town of Mahmudiya.
"A car bomb explosion in al-Mahmudiya caused deaths and injuries. Many wounded people have been brought to al-Yarmouk hospital" bystander Sabah Faghri said outside Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad.
Sectarian violence between Shi'ites and minority Sunni Arabs has been rising since the Feb. 22 bombing of a major Shi'ite shrine.
Dozens of mutilated bodies are being found daily on the streets of the capital and the government estimated more than 60,00 people have been forced from their homes.
