- Story Text: A suicide car bomb exploded near a joint patrol of Iraqi army and U.S. troops west of Baghdad on Wednesday (April 6), killing seven, one of them an Iraqi policeman, the Iraqi army said.
The attack took place in Amiriyat al-Falluja area southwest of Falluja.
"A Kia (a type of car) was driving near our checkpoint at about 0205 p.m. (1105 GMT), one of our soldiers pointed out gun on the car and after that the suicide bomber blew himself up. The casualties were among the civilians but not the U.S. or Iraqi forces," said Waleed Hamid, an Iraqi soldier.
The U.S. forces did not give an immediate report on the attack.
Falluja, a Sunni Arab city 50 km (32 miles) west of Baghdad, was the main insurgent stronghold in Baghdad until a U.S. offensive drove most guerrillas out in November. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
