- Story Text: A suicide bomber drove a car into a bus carrying employees of Iraq's oil ministry on Monday (September 26), killing at least six people and wounding 14, police said. The bombing near the ministry was the bloodiest attack on Iraq's energy industry since insurgents began blowing up pipelines and killing oil officials after the fall of Saddam Hussein in April 2003. An eyewitness told Reuters the bus was carrying workers for a state oil exploration company. The bombing was the latest blow to government efforts to improve security for its oil industry, the top income earner for Iraq's battered economy. Following the attack, Iraq Oil Minister Thamir Ghadban told journalistS that he was hoping the security staff would bring the situation under control. Attacks on pipelines have deprived state coffers of billions of dollars in crude oil revenue and scared investors away. Insurgents are waging a campaign of bombings and shootings in a bid to topple Iraq's U.S.-backed government.
