- Story Text: A car bomb exploded close to Iraqi police convoy in eastern Baghdad on Tuesday (November 8, 2005), killing one civilian and wounding two others, police said.
The attack took place near al-Mustansiriyah University in eastern Baghdad.
The car was parked near a roadside and when a convoy of Iraqi police passed by, it exploded.
"The Iraqi army was running the checkpoint up the road here and what we think happened was that a car bomb drove up, saw the checkpoint, saw that the traffic was backed up, pulled up at the side here and about three gentlemen walked away that way and the car detonated," U.S. army Captain Chris Mahaffey said.
On Monday (November 7) witnesses said that U.S. forces opened fire on civilian car near the road that leads to Mussayib, seriously wounding three people.
Witnesses added that two of the wounded who were police officers were taken to a U.S. base near the area of the accident while the third was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
