- Story Text: As many as eight bombs went off across Baghdad on
New Year's morning (January 1) wounding, according to
police, several people. Police accounts varied on the
number of explosions, but at least two of them were
suspected of being car bombs.
Two of the blasts went off near restaurants in eastern
Baghdad and two targeted police patrols.
Insurgent attacks have increased in Iraq following a
lull during and after the Dec. 15 parliamentary election.
However, U.S. military commanders in Baghdad say that
reduced casualty numbers in recent attacks are an
indication of the success U.S. and Iraqi forces have had in
disrupting guerrilla activity . - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
