- Story Text: A bomb near Baqouba wounded five civilians and in Baghdad a bomb caused heavy damage but no casualties.
Three children, a man and a woman were among the wounded in the blast on Sunday (March 28) at Buhriz, a few km (miles) south of Baqouba in Iraq.
The witnesses said the bomb attack may have been aimed at an Iraqi contractor working with the U.S. army.
They said that a bomb in plastic bag was thrown in front of the contractor's house by a child. The contractor's brother and a woman in the house were injured in the attack. Three school children who were walking near the house were also injured in the attack.
"This criminal attack targeted innocent civilians who were walking in street. A child was seen carrying a plastic bag and threw it in front of a house, minutes later the explosion happened. Five people were wounded in the blast, including three brothers, a man and a woman. A number of houses and a car were damaged by the blast," said police officer Colonel Fadhil Mahmoud Muhammed.
Guerrillas fighting the U.S.-led occupation often target Iraqi police and civil defence personnel seen as cooperating with the Americans, especially in mainly Sunni Muslim towns like Baqouba to the north west of Baghdad.
Meanwhile, a bomb planted near a house of police officer in Baghdad's western neighbourhood of Bayaa, caused heavy structural damage but no casualties.
The bomb was planted near the outer wall of the house of police officer colonel Hussein Abdul Wahid, head of Police station of the Shi'ite slum of Sadr City. The blast demolis hed part of the house and damaged two cars and smashed windows in nearby houses. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
