Israeli police dismantled a bomb in Jerusalem on August 15 only minutes before the device was set to explode. Police received an anonymous phone call about a "suspicious-looking" car parked next to a medical clinic near a major shopping street. Police blew open the boot of the car and dismantled the bomb which a police spokesman said contained enough explosives to "have caused a lot of damage". Streets nearby were closed for nearly an hour while demolition experts worked to dismantle the bomb. Israel Radio said that several Arabs were detained after the bomb was discovered, some to protect them from angry Israelis. The name of the Palestine Liberation Organisation group, Fatah, was found scrawled inside the car. On June 27 police defused a bomb that had been planted on a bus in the same area.
