- Story Text: An explosion in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has damaged the premises of a car-hire firm alleged to have rented out at least one of the cars used in Tuesday's (10 December) rocket attacks on the offices of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). No one was reported injured.
The blast came on Wednesday (II December) -- the same day that Lebanon's Prime Minister Rashid Al-Solh announced tougher security arrangements for the city.
Speaking to newsmen only hours after the latest blast Mr. Al-Solh announced restrictions on car rentals and said car-hire applicants will now have to submit passports to hire firms, which will hand them over to security authorities for approval before a car can be rented.
He also asked for the restoration of security road blocks in Beirut, which he had suspended only a fortnight before.
Tuesday's rocket attacks on three PLO offices were mounted from hired cars. They had been rented by men carrying passports apparently issued in Britain, Ireland, West Germany and Mexico.
Mr. Al-Solh said he had asked the Consuls of the four states concerned to supply photographs of the four people who had hired the cars.
