- Story Text: A huge bomb went off outside the British Ambassador's residence in Buenos Aires early on Friday (25 April), killing an Argentine policeman and seriously injuring two other persons.
The Ambassador, Mr. Derick Rosslyn Ashe, 56 -- who presented his credentials to President Maria Estela Peron only a week ago -- was asleep in the residence and escaped injury. But a maid and a night watchman in a neighbouring building were seriously injured in the explosion, which wrecked three cars, damaged seven others and smashed windows in the Ambassador's residence and other nearby building.
The blast was detonated about 4 a.m. when the policeman opened the door of an automobile parked outside the Ambassador's residence, next door to the British Embassy, because it had its lights on.
Police and Embassy spokesmen could give no reason for the attack, but one of the latter said the bomb "was definitely aimed at the Embassy buildings because the car was parked as close to them as possible".
