- Story Text: At least seven people have been killed and 40 wounded
when a powerful bomb exploded in a passenger bus in
Pakistan-ruled part Kashmir.
The blast happened on Tuesday (July 27) at Sehnsa in
the Kotli district, which borders Indian-ruled Kashmir.
Police said the bus was headed for Kotli town from
Rawalpindi in Pakistan's Punjab province. The injured were
admitted to a government hospital.
"There was a bomb explosion.I don't know what happened
after that. There was a loud noise. The bus was going to
Kotli," said a survivor.
"All of a sudden a bomb exploded and the bus caught
fire. The bus was full of local passengers. As soon as there
was an explosion, the bus caught fire and it stopped," said
another injured passenger.
A senior police official said India was thought to be
involved in the bomb blast. Both sides often accuse each other
of sponsoring terrorist acts on the side of the other.
Earlier this month, India wound down a two-month
military offensive to flush out hundreds of guerrillas who had
occupied heights overlooking the strategic Srinagar-Leh
highway in Indian-held Kashmir.
Pakistan had asked the guerrillas to withdraw from the
Kargil heights after bloody fighting which brought the two
arch-rivals close to the brink of a full-scale war.
The two countries have fought two of their three wars
over Kashmir.
India said the infiltrators were a mix of Pakistani army
regulars and Islamic militants.Pakistan maintained that the
guerrillas were freedom fighters against Indian rule in Jammu
and Kashmir.
India rules two-thirds of Kashmir and Pakistan the rest.
